The cluttered structure makes it look like they are trying hard. Compared to the simple navigation of VLC Media Player or WMP, Winamp sounds like a bit of a maze.
Winamp is safe and easy to download. Setup is very fast. There is also a custom installation option, which lets you decide which parts you would like to install. It is best to select this option only if you have downloaded Winamp before and want to save some default files.
Interface and performance of Winamp media player
The user interface is one of Winamp’s most dynamic features. Customize everything from player size to every small window. There is a search bar, so you can easily find the songs you want. The app allows you to add media from your hard drive or OneDrive. The app can also convert all your music and videos to be associated with Winamp. This actually does nothing, except that whenever you play something with the Winamp tag, it will play in the app instead of loading with Groove automatically.
Once you have uploaded your media to the app, Winamp will automatically configure it for you. Scroll songs by albums, artists, or titles; it’s up to you. There is also an option to disable any filtering style.
Viewing your files is greatly improved in Winamp. With the SmartView feature, you can customize and filter specific attributes to create a “smart view”. These will be added to a playlist with all the same attributes, and you can check them out later. While this is a good thing, some may find it unnecessary.
One of the features of Winamp’s signature still exists Measurement or EQ. You can move slides across audio frequency bands to change the sound. Does your music sound muddy? Try reducing the width of 1-3K. Is it to boom? Take out some low-level buses under 320 and below. Increase treble and wide range up to 12K and 14K to add a bit of sparkle.
Radio and browser
You can listen to the radio and podcasts in Winamp. Listen to a variety of channels, including popular genres such as R&B, Rap, and Country. The only problem with this is that you have to download the Shoutcast file for each channel. This means that the session you are listening to is not live. Most of these files were corrupted when they arrived and will not play.
Winamp is currently working on the podcast section to allow users to listen to their subscriptions. You may be able to get Rich Site Summary (RSS) feeds through the app if you have an extension. There is no indication that this feature really works.
Next to the Visual tab, there is a built-in browser that lets you access the web while listening to music. Although slow, the browser works. You can sign in to your Google account or email as you would in Chrome or Firefox. The good news is that web browsing in Winamp does not increase its RAM usage significantly, in that case.
The problem with the built-in browser is about its compatibility. Winamp is understood to be an audio player, not an Internet browser. This feature sounds like an attempt by engineers to determine if they can achieve a goal rather than an informed design project.
Device manager
Winamp lets you sync files from your phone or any other smart device. It does not connect with your device directly, but with your computer. This allows you to transfer media from the external drive to Winamp and save it to related folders. It’s another cool thing to have, but it’s not the most common thing among similar software.
Improved specs of Winamp media player
Winamp has discarded all its previous simplicity to get it all out of modern services. From a technical standpoint, a commendable effort. These days, playing anything offline is very rare. With all the advanced features, however, Winamp may be able to convince users otherwise. That is a good thing, except that most users can still choose the old model where everything is straightforward.
It is one of the reasons why apps like VLC and Groove Music are so successful. They are much simpler and easier to use than Winamp. However, that does not exclude all positive changes in the app. Luxury is the key, and most people still like to get everything in one place.
A new version of the app, Winamp 5.8, has improved support for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. It also changed the code encoders for a number of file formats, such as .mp3, and to update libraries.
